Light Smoking

“I only smoke when I’m out with my friends.”

“I only smoke once in a while to calm me down.”

“I don’t buy cigarettes because I really don’t smoke.”

Don't be fooled

As daily smoking declines in adults, light and occasional smoking has increased. This may be due to the belief that light smoking is “safer” than regular smoking. Whether you are a light or heavy smoker, you are still repeatedly exposing your body to harmful cancer and disease-causing chemicals. Smoking can affect every organ in your body and increase your chances of life-threatening diseases, such as cancer and heart disease.

So if you are a light or occasional smoker, consider giving it up. Every cigarette does you harm and there is NO SAFE WAY to smoke.

Occasional or light smoking still carries substantial health risks.

Smoking 1 to 10 cigarettes daily can lead to a higher risk of early death – as much as 9 to 12 times higher than a nonsmoker.
